Coinbase Global, the world's largest crypto exchange by trading volume, has announced that it plans to expand its employee base this year.
In a blog post published on Feb. 15, Coinbase announced that in order to effectively capitalize on the opportunities ahead, it needs further support in scaling its current products while developing new ones. The blog states:
“In 2022 we plan to hire up to 2,000 people across our product, engineering and design teams. We see tremendous product opportunities for the future of Web3. We believe our industry is still in its infancy and that creating entry points for individuals is critical to driving the next generation of crypto applications. We are also expanding into products hosting user-generated content such as NFTs, and we are excited about our ambitious plans for the future of the Coinbase wallet that improve security, usability and accessibility.”
The platform notes that an important point has been reached in the cryptocurrency space: public acceptance is at an all-time high, crypto companies are more visible than ever, and the proliferation of Web3 apps opens up new opportunities every day.
Just recently, Coinbase was forced to halt traffic to its website following a commercial that ran during Sunday night's Super Bowl. The commercial featured a QR code that redirected viewers to the Coinbase website and included an offer of $15 in free bitcoin just for signing up. The Coinbase website was seeing so many visitors that the company was forced to throttle traffic.
Perhaps that's why Coinbase announced in January that it would give its employees a four-week "deliberate recharge" period to prevent burnout. This is the time when the entire company will shut down to prevent work from piling up, the company said at the time.
