Kraken CEO says users should consider delisting cryptocurrencies from exchanges

 

Kraken CEO Jesse Powell has criticized the Canadian government for confiscating funds from bank accounts of Freedom Convoy protesters.

Jesse Powell, CEO of Kraken, said today that all users concerned about governments confiscating their cryptocurrency without court approval should withdraw their funds from crypto exchanges, including his own.

On Wednesday, Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked emergency rules that allow the government to freeze bank accounts linked to the protests without going through the court system. This also includes crypto wallets linked to donations and operations related to the Freedom Convoy.

Canadian law enforcement has also previously ordered crypto exchanges to block all transactions linked to dozens of crypto wallets identified as linked to the protest.

Powell is the latest prominent figure in the crypto space to speak out against the Canadian government's decision to confiscate funds from its citizens. On Tuesday, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong also tweeted his concerns about recent developments in Canada while emphasizing the importance of storing cryptocurrency in a self-custodial wallet.
