Tipping-Jar – Twitter introduces Ether payments for tipping

 

After major social network Twitter introduced bitcoin payments as part of its Tipping Jar feature in September 2021 , more payment options have been added this week, including market-leading altcoin Ether ( ETH ).

Twitter users who want to receive ETH tips simply need to turn on the tips feature and provide an Ethereum address to deposit the funds to. However, no ENS domain can be specified so far, only full alphanumeric addresses are properly accepted.

When using Bitcoin as a payment method, the corresponding transactions are sent via the Lightning Network, which in turn processes the payments via the Strike app. Twitter has so far left open the exact processes that take place in the background of ETH payments. Initially, the extended tip feature is only available for smartphone users using iOS or Android. The tips are credited in full to the recipient without deductions.

As Twitter explains on its own website , the tip function is intended to allow users "to support their favorite artists and journalists". In addition to cryptocurrencies, the Cash App, GoFundMe, Patreon, Wealthsimple and Venmo can now also be used.

Recently, Twitter Blue, the social network's premium service, enabled iOS users to use Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) as profile pictures .
