Malchus was the first character I chose to explore in this series. I was intrigued by his virtual anonymity. I love to ask questions as I read the Scriptures. I don’t always get the answers I want and some answers are just going to have to wait until I reach heaven. But when it came to Malchus, I had some serious questions. How can a man get his ear chopped off by Peter and replaced by Jesus without seriously reconsidering life?Would it be possible for this man to carry on throughout the rest of his life as though nothing happened? That didn't make sense to me. However, the Scriptures are silent. This is really all we know about Malchus. He was the last known recipient of healing at the hands of Christ. Then I began to consider the unnamed inquirers of Acts 2:37. Could one of them have been Malchus? The answer to that question is known but to God. However, I began to explore how that story might be told if it were true. The result is the first short story in the series Journals of the Cross. Malchus' world was turned upside down when the fisherman's blade severed his ear that dark night in Gethsemane. He had come to arrest a rebel by the name of Jesus but left the garden wondering if he had just taken the Messiah into custody. Join Malchus in his quest for truth in this short story surrounding the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.
