The notorious adult platform wants to find out "what role NFTs can play".
Amrapali "Ami" Gan, CEO of social network OnlyFans, has confirmed to Reuters that her platform, which is primarily known for adult content, allows the use of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) as profile pictures.
“Our goal is for our users to secure the rights to their full artistic potential. This new feature is the first step for us to explore what role NFTs can play on our platform.”
OnlyFans initially only allows the use of NFTs that are created on the Ethereum blockchain. As proof of authenticity, the logo of Ethereum ( ETH ) is displayed next to a respective NFT profile picture.
According to the platform, the new function was introduced back in December, when Gan took the helm as the new CEO. As part of her appointment as CEO, the previous head of marketing emphasized that OnlyFans is keen to “combine modern technology with artistic creativity” as much as possible.
The UK-based company isn't the first social network to take this step. Twitter had previously included NFT profile pictures and Reddit is already trying them out. YouTube, meanwhile , says NFTs "could be an interesting vehicle for artists and their fans."
